Works fine here! Here's a screenshot from my iPad connected to my iMac running OS X 10.7 Lion developer preview…
double-tap for right click isn't working, but considering I've found some other bugs with 10.7's VNC server I bet it's just that.
I'll try running Vine Server here and connecting through that and see if that gives me a double-tap for right click…
I'm having issues with 10.7 Lion and the iTeleport connect server... After entering my google id it immediately connects then disconnects saying "You've been signed in from another location, and have been disconnected here." but then immediately connects again then disconnects in a vicious cycle! I'm definitely not signed in elsewhere.... any ideas?
Hello, I'm having the same problem, iTeleport connect keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.
Also, when I login from iTeleport (both iPhone & iPad), I get the error "The server went offline", but the screen does start building up! If anyone knows what causes it, help would be appreciated.
I'm updating to Developer Preview 2 later today, maybe it's just something in the first Lion build...
On a different note, though: VNC on Lion is completely awesome. Being able to log in as any user opens up a ton of possibilities and definitely justifies hanging on to your Xserves ;)
p.s. I connect to my Lion machine manually, for some reason it doesn't show up in the Discovered tab anymore.
Running Lion Developer Preview 2 Update 2 (build 11A444d) I have the same issue as Kael with iTeleport Connect 5.0.10. My Google account uses 2-step verification with an application-specific password for iTeleport on the iPad and iTeleport Connect on the Mac. If i reset the password, the initial connection from iTeleport Connect is fine, but the moment I try to connect from the iPad I get this issue.
In case it wasn't clear, iPad and Mac each have their own app-specific password, they don't share one.
I am having an issue with iTeleport and Lion DP4. when I connect to Lion, I get a login screen but can't write anything..
Same here, Lion DP4, any attempt to connect and I get a log in screen that does not work. I e-mailed the support staff and they said it works fine under Lion....great, that gives me hope.
Still nothing???
Try disabling "Require Password ...... after sleep or screen saver begins" under Security & Privacy in System Preferences.
Hasn't solved the problem for me but this might be one possible spot that causes this problem.
I can manage to log in after a few tries every time now, maybe choose a short password until it's fixed.
How about that double tap for right click issue?
Any solution yet?
^ The require password for me was never turned on, so no help there.
Hey all, we're working on a fix for Lion that should be submitted to Apple soon. Thanks for your patience.
I use it on Lion - iTeleport doesn't always stay connected - and sometimes when I connect I get the grey screen.
BUT (especially on LAN) sometimes if I just disconnect and try reconnecting I'll get the log in screen. I think part of the reason why the grey screen shows up is because Lion Preview is the OS X Server variant (correct me if I'm wrong) and if it were Lion standard (even a beta) it would want to connect directly to your current screen instead of logging in.
Anyway - keep up the great work Vishal and iTeleport team. Now if only there was a fix for my Synergy+ server on Lion I'd be all set. Can't wait for your update and this is the reason we have betas and previews right? Hope the ever-growing number of iOS users continues to bring you more customers :D
I think it's the new multi user update in the VNC server over at the Lion OS that is causing this.
I am running the GM right now and none of the existing VNC clients (iteleport, Chicken of VNC etc) can connect to it :(
BTW both Lion Server and Client support multiuser login via VNC and hence both OS will be having problems... This is a problem over at Apple's side as they have stuffed up their VNC server and none of the existing VNC clients can connect to it.
Yeah, doesn't work under lion GM for me either… in fact, when I try to connect, it actually makes my WiFi connect drop entirely and I have to reconnect manually… very weird. Happens every time.
hey peter, it seems to be a problem caused by the VNC server inside Lion. none of the existing VNC client can connect to Lion successfully. I can't believe Apple have left this bug in inside their GM release!
Hi Peter
I cannot agree with you. Here are my reasons looking at the problem in both the point of what VNC is and what is actually happening when a VNC client is connected to the new Lion server.
If you look into what VNC is - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Network_Computing
If you look at the bug itself. When a VNC client is connected to Lion's VNC server, it should display a screen and allow user to see something and control the mouse and keyboard. Both of these are achieved successfully by the VNC clients I tried (including iTeleport) and I can see a login screen (new in Lion) and I can sometimes type in some characters in the keyboard and move the mouse around. The point at which things start to fall apart seems to be Lion's server not processing the incoming data correctly and not taking in the username and password to activate the correct session.

If you look into what VNC is - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Network_Computing - you should be able to see that it is a platform independent protocol that makes it possible for different clients to connect to different servers regardless of what platform they are on. This is the main reason and purpose behind the creation of such standard. It does not make sense for Apple to make changes to their VNC server that requires VNC clients to change their code in order just to support it. For these Apple only feature, there is Remote Desktop for the Macs; Remote Desktop Connection for Windows... these on the other hand are proprietary software and are made this way to provide a better experience over the standard VNC.

Ok, a few issues with your theory are: 1. This is not Lion Server in question, its the regular version. 2. The log in screen is new, which is evidence of changes by Apple. 3. It works sometimes, other times not. This is almost 100% evidence that changes are needed to the app for it to function properly..
I understand what you're saying fully, you're just going too far to look for your answers. This is not a bug, and I'm absolutely certain that VNC functions as Apple intends it to in the current GM build of Lion. Perhaps someone on the app development side needs to pick up the phone and ask.
Hi again,
1. when I said Lion's VNC server, and then later on, Lion's server, I really do mean the VNC server that is running inside BOTH of the Lion (Home) and Lion (Server) editions (and they are both the same thing). In fact, a VNC server have been include in every OS X since 10.5.
2. The login screen is new = changes by Apple. and this is where the bug is happening as Apple added an extra layer inside their server to process the login info and pass the session to the correct user..
and as a bonus, I just did a look up in Apple's developer library for references of VNC just to be sure... and there isn't any thing on VNC.
Why? because the thing is a standard... that means as long as the developers are following the standards of making a VNC client, then everything should work. And it is based on these evidence that I can conclude that this bug is 99% likely to be introduced by Apple as part of their changes...
Gotcha, I think we're on the exact same page, just with differing opinions on what bugs are vs. changes. The log in screen is enhanced security, a new feature, added on top of standard VNC protocol. We don't know for certain that anything has to change in relation to the VNC standards that are used, just that the software in involved has to know how to accommodate (and possibly bypass) the extra step.
I also cannot find anything related to this in the help sections, so -1 for Apple for not properly documenting this change.
I just found the solution. It seems that the new server (VNC server) in Lion does not support the Hextile encodings.
To connect to Lion using VNC, make sure you have the Hextile disabled in the Advance > Encoding menu. The Hextile encoding option is currently enabled by default.
My iTeleport client now have the following encoding DISABLED and is able to connect to different Lion machines without any problem: Tight, ZlibHex, Hextile, Pointer Position.
first thing I did was removing the old server by pressing the delete button.
then I tried disabling ALL of the encoding settings expect RAW and iTeleport started to work and connects fine...
then I reenabled Zlib, ZRLE, RRE, Rich Cursor CopyRect, iteleport Media, and Screen Resize and iTeleport continues to work...
so for my second server, I just removed it, add it again, stuck with the defaults except turning Hextile off...
PS: during my many trials, I notice the VNC server on Lion starts to hang if I try to connect to it using bad encodings... so maybe you can try restarting your mac, then go to Sharings to disable and then reenable remote management...
PPS: The server included in the GM is indeed very buggy. I just crashed it while trying to connect to it with the Hextile encoding enabled again :p
Wanted to update everyone on the status of Lion support. We've submitted an update to Apple that adds Lion support by supporting authentication with your Mac username/password (version 5.0.7). The update has already been approved for the iPad-only version. We're still waiting for the universal iPhone and iPad version to be approved; hopefully this will happen before Lion is released to the public.
This actually turned out to be a really difficult problem to solve because of significant changes Apple made to screen sharing in Lion. Thanks for your support and let us know if you have any issues once the update is available in the App Store.
Unfortunately we don't really have visibility on the status of the review process right now. Given the average length of review periods we've had for past updates, we expect it to be available this week. We'll let you know as soon as we do :)
@Vishal thanks, just tried it and it works fine except that it can only control one of my dual screens...
just out of curiosity, if Apple is using their new Mac only authentication system, why is it also supporting the old VNC password login http://cloud.littlepirates.co/1v342e020s2E0q1p0c1K
@Vishal
So to get iTeleport (iPad) to connect to Lion, I must go into iTeleport settings and change the authentication system to Mac? the original VNC password won't work?
Works again with V5.0.7 once switched to Mac auth.
Unfortunately double tap for right click still not working...
Hi Vishal, will iTeleport support connecting to Lion over the pervious VNC password authentication method?
@William Yes, for Lion you now need to go into your computer's settings, change the authentication to Mac and enter in your Mac username/password.
@hondavtec By double tap do you mean a two-finger tap? As far as we know two-finger taps should still work on Lion. Let us know more details and we can investigate.
oh my goodness, I was floored by some of the people in this thread and their sense of entitlement to software that isn't even officially released or supported by its own vendor (OS X Lion Developer Previews).
What baffles me is how:
1) the same person who installed Lion Developer Preview can manage to know so much about it without realizing he's installing Lion Server
2) that iTeleport must be broken when it connects (and is supported) on 6 or more other operating systems with working VNC clients, but must be broken because it can't connect to Lion which no other VNC client can connect to any better than iTeleport
3) how paying customers are entitled to working iTeleport support for any piece of software they wish to run, and that's more important to them than the other users who are using Snow Leopard or Leopard, or Windows (which ought to take priority for paying customers)
I must say Vishal, I'm ecstatic that there's a workaround for iTeleport and Lion - you've really given us quite a generous gift there. Not all customers are the same - I would have given you about a month after Lion public release to add support before I'd start asking questions.
At the end of this thread all I can say is I have more respect and love for the great team behind this software and I'll continue to recommend it to my family/friends with iPhones because it truly is the best software I've bought in the app store since I got my phone 2 years ago!
Thanks for all your hard work - it doesn't go unnoticed and I really appreciate it!
@Vishal
I can confirm with what @hondavtec reported that tap with 2 fingers does not trigger a right click in Lion when connected with the new iTeleport iPad.
I am also wondering if the default VNC authentication (which Lion still seems to support in the Sharing preference) is changed / buggy in Lion that is causing problems in all existing VNC clients... as I sometime prefer to connect with VNC authentication and see they login screen in a certain situation
anyway thanks for your quick replies and I am looking forward for the upcoming updates in iTeleport.
Yes, the changes in VNC authentication in Lion will affect all VNC clients as far as we know. In iTeleport, if you want the new Lion login screen then you would continue to connect with VNC authentication. If you want to be able to connect directly to your computer, you would use the new Mac authentication support.
We'll take a look at the 2-finger tap issue.
@Tom Thanks for your continued support! Our users are the most important part of our company and we really do try to make our product for you guys.
@Vishal thanks for your clarifications... right now the VNC authentication is not working under iTeleport, it is still the same as the previous version, can you take a look at that?
iTeleport v5.0.7 (Universal version for iPhone and iPad) is now available for download. You should now be able to connect with your Lion computer via Mac authentication. More complete support for Lion is coming in the next update (including fixing the two-finger tap for right click).
Let us know if you have any issues, either here on the forums or support@iteleportmobile.com
The new version now lets me connect to Lion GM, but is having problems with duel monitors.
Is this a normal issue?
Actually, no tap to click is working at all; not single or double.
@Richard Yes, issues with dual monitors is a known issue. We believe it is a bug in Lion, but we're looking into a workaround.
@Doug You can connect directly with your desktop and bypass the login screen by: going to the settings for your computer > tap Security > change Authentication to Mac > enter in your Mac user/password > reconnect to your computer
@Mark Can you send us more details on the problem you're seeing? You can email us at support@iteleportmobile.com
@Vishal: I already have a support ticket in, that has just been elevated to the development team.
Problem is, I was able to log in to my Lion machine by changing the authentication to Mac, as you say, but once logged in and the desktop is visible, I am unable to click anything. I can move the cursor around the screen but single- or two-finger tapping produces no click command at all. I then logged into another machine running Snow Leopard and it worked just fine. I have the latest versions of all related software installed.
I'm trying to change my settings on my MacPro to the MAC authentication but when I go to system preferences and then Security I don't see this selection, am I in the wrong place? I've tried to load my VNC Server program to run iTeleport but it won't even load.
I have been having a similar problem that when I connect to my mac running 10.7 I am only prompted with the login screen. I've attempted to use the mac login info, but it rejects my username/password combo. If I log out, I can login no problem.
@Mark I just responded to your ticket but I'll repeat the details here for other people on the thread.
We've found that Lion has issues when dealing with multiple screens. We've filed a bug with Apple regarding this and they've acknowledged it's a known issue. At the same time, we're looking into see if there is a way we can workaround this in the app.
In the meanwhile, a workaround that seems to work in Lion: layout your screens side-by-side with the top edges aligned. To do this, go to System Preferences > Displays. When you rearrange the displays side-by-side, the tops of the 2 displays should be aligned.
@Frank You need to change to Mac authentication on the iTeleport on your iPhone/iPad. Go to the Settings for your computer (by tapping the arrow on the right side of the row) and follow the steps I outlined in the previous post. Let me know if that works for you.
@Ed You would need to explicitly change the authentication method to "Mac" inside the app before you can use your Mac user/password. See my post earlier in this thread for details on how to do that.
@Vishal: I responded by mail but I will also post here. The top alignment does not work for me, but the problem is linked to my main display being on the right and the secondary on the left. If I swap them so the secondary is to the right of the main it starts working properly.
Hope that helps.
@Frank Please send us the log from iTeleport Connect to support@iteleportmobile.com and we'll take a closer look.
@Mark Thanks for posting this. We'll let you know as soon as a better solution is available.
@Vishal: I've sent the log you requested, just for your info I'm able to use my MacBook Air with the change to the Mac login but still not my MacPro.
hey everyone. I've got a question about the new Lion login process. I've setup my computer settings in iTeleport with my Mac Username and password, however when i connect I still see the login screen and have to type in the account password again to actually login to Lion. Basically, it seems to work just like it did in Snow Leopard as opposed to "it will take you directly to your screen without showing you the login screen."
Is there something i need to configure on my mac? Will this work the same if i have screen-saver authentication on, or is that different than the actual Lion login screen? (I've tried both, and they act the same way so far)
Thanks for any input!
I have recently update to OS 10.7 and iTeleport on my desktop keeps stating "Connecting" and that's all it does. Since It does not connect on my desktop I cannot access it form my Ipad. Any fixes?
@acosmichippo In Snow Leopard you could connect directly to your desktop once you're logged into your Mac. By "login screen", do you mean your Mac user/password login screen on your desktop? If that's the case, then that is expected. When we say you can connect "directly to your screen," we are talking about a new login screen that was added in Lion and is related to making VNC connections. Let me know if that clarifies things.
@Holland Can you send your iTeleport Connect log to support@iteleportmobile.com?
@Vishal: not sure what I did but it's working now after I rebooted this time.
@acosmichippo - After reebooting the computer the software came back to normal. The only thing different is the login screen, but now I am able to connect to the computer. Thanks.
@anyone- Hey guys, I'm having a great deal of trouble getting teleport to work on my macbook that I put lion on. I've read thru the forums numerous times to see if there is a step I'm missing but can't figure things out. I went to my security & Privacy tab in my system settings, can't find the area to change to mac log in, went thru my finder to the security tab, still no luck, tried looking in the actual teleport area but don't see anything there to change it to mac log in, I'm sure some of you are reading this and saying what a dummy but I'm sorry I really need some clear walk thru instructions I guess. The problem I'm having is when it connects I just get the login screen and wants me to type a password that I can't type in. I use to be able to connect directly to my laptop screen and am trying to figure out how to do that with lion.
Thanks, sorry for the trouble to whomever answers, but I have been trying
Just like somebody mentioned, I'm having troubles with my triple monitors with Lion.
Could you please email me when this issue gets fixed? I use this incredible app as part of my video editing business to start renders/upload videos for clients when I'm away from the office.
have to wait for Apple to release their first service pack 10.7.1 and hopefully they have addressed these bugs... or disable / rearrange your monitors... or go back to Snow Leopard :(
I updated to 10.7.1 and this issue is unfixed.
Unbelievable this is still not working. It has completely ruined iTeleport for me. Anyone know of any good alternatives that will work with dual screens?
One thing that is frustrating is the iTeleport support people say it's Apple's fault, but all I know is that screen sharing to my dual-display computer works fine from other computers, the only place it's broken is in iTeleport. It is totally unacceptable. Their BS 'solutions' are ridiculous and not solutions at all.
For what it's worth, I now use LogMeIn. For desktop-to-desktop there's a free version, and the "Ignition" app for the iPad/iPhone is US$30. It works fine on double screens (shows one at a time and you switch between views) and it also comes up after reboot and before you log in so you can reboot your machine remotely and still get back in.
I really liked iTeleport but couldn't wait for a fix.
Thanks Mark! I might have to give it a shot, not having any attempt at a real interim solution from iTeleport is forcing me to consider switching to what i'd otherwise consider an inferior program. I'll have to go check out LogMeIn.
Has anyone had any luck after updating to 10.7.1?
XXXXX This simple fix solved the problem with my OS X Lion connection : ) XXXXX
Just Turn off "Remote Access" and turn on "Screen Sharing" in the System Settings, then login from your device with your MAC User Name and password. You find your MAC user name up in the right corner of your desktop. VNC login did not work at all for me!
GOOD LUCK!
Best Regards
Lars Fransén
you don't need to change from remote access to screen sharing, just log in with MAC username and password will works
fwiw I had the same problem and checked Activity Monitor to find that I had an instance of iTeleport Connect running even after I had quit the application. Killing that process and then relaunching iTeleport has resolved this issue for me.
Here's a link on how to kill processes with Activity Monitor (it's in your Utilities folder):
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/macnifying-os-x-learning-to-utilize-ac...
OK I've read this thread loads of times, running iTeleport on a Macbook Pro and on iPhone 3gs and iPad. Have changed the authentication to Mac on my iThings, and set the VNC password to my mac user login password in the advanced settings in iTeleport Connect on the Macbook Pro. I am unable to connect from either the iPhone or iPad, even though iTeleport connect on the mac connects to my gmail account.
In my screensharing option in Macbook system prefs, I notice that iTeleport keeps altering my advanced settings i.e. the checkboxes where it says VNC users can connect to this computer using this password is filled in with the old VNC password. My mac user password seems to have to many letters to fit in the space provided in system preferences, so I have tried turning off that checkbox and only leaving the "Anyone may request permission". Still no luck.
Also I notice that if I quit iTeleport connect on the Macbook Pro and reopen it even after repeatedly entering my mac username login, it comes back with the old password still filled in the box in advanced settings.
This is driving me crazy.
Oh and after messing around changing things , the iPhone app has now started to crash.
just FYI, i got an email from Apple asking me about to test their 10.7.3 beta to see if it fixed this bug... so I think they are really working on this bug now.
Anyone found a solution to this? Seems to me the problem only occurs when multiple users are logged in to one machine via fast user switching.
